What is a Thunderbolt 5 docking station?

Is a Thunderbolt 5 dock compatible with my laptop?

Thunderbolt 5 docks are fully backward-compatible with Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, and USB4 hosts. If your laptop has a USB-C port with Thunderbolt or USB4 support, the dock will work — though maximum performance (120 Gbps, 140W charging, triple 4K @ 144Hz) requires a Thunderbolt 5 host. Check your laptop specification sheet for the host interface type.

What is the difference between a USB-C hub and a Thunderbolt 5 dock?

A USB-C hub is a compact, portable adapter that adds a handful of ports (HDMI, USB-A, SD card) via a single USB-C connection. It is ideal for travel and light multi-tasking. A Thunderbolt 5 docking station is a full desktop solution with higher bandwidth, more ports, multi-monitor support, and high-wattage laptop charging. For a fixed workstation with multiple monitors, choose a dock. For portability, choose a hub.

How many monitors can I connect with a Thunderbolt 5 dock?

Thunderbolt 5 docks from Acer and Plugable support up to three external monitors — for example, two 4K displays via HDMI 2.1 and one via DisplayPort 2.1, or a single 8K display at 60Hz. Will a Plugable dock work with my MacBook Pro?

Yes. Plugable Thunderbolt 5 and USB4 docking stations are fully compatible with MacBook Pro (M2 Pro / M3 Pro / M4 Pro and later models with Thunderbolt 4/5 ports), as well as Windows laptops from Dell, HP, Lenovo, ASUS, Microsoft Surface, and others.

What does a KVM switch do?

A KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switch lets you control two or more computers using a single monitor, keyboard, and mouse. With a Plugable USB-C KVM switch, you can switch between, for example, your work laptop and personal desktop with the press of a button — without unplugging any cables.

Do I need drivers for Acer or Plugable USB-C hubs?

No. All Acer and Plugable USB-C hubs and docking stations are plug-and-play on Windows 10/11, macOS 12+, and Chrome OS. No driver installation is required for basic functionality. Some advanced features (such as BIOS-level docking on select Thunderbolt hosts) may require a firmware update from the manufacturer.

What is a portable monitor, and do I need one?

A portable monitor is a slim, lightweight external display powered directly by USB-C — no separate power adapter required. How long does shipping take?

Standard shipping within the US typically takes 5–8 business days. Expedited shipping (2–3 business days) is available at checkout. International orders vary by destination. Orders are processed within 1–2 business days of payment confirmation.

How do I track my order?

You will receive a shipping confirmation email with a tracking number once your order has been dispatched. You can also track your order by logging into your account or visiting the carrier's tracking page directly.

Can I cancel or modify my order?

Orders can be cancelled or modified within 24 hours of placement, provided they have not yet been dispatched. Contact us immediately at support@acergadgetstore.com with your order number.

Returns & Warranty

What is your return policy?

What warranty do Acer products come with?

Acer products sold through AcerGadget Store include a 1-year Acer manufacturer limited warranty. Plugable products include a 2-year Plugable manufacturer limited warranty. How do I make a warranty claim?

Contact our support team at support@acergadgetstore.com with your order number and a description of the issue. We will coordinate the warranty process with Acer or Plugable on your behalf.

Are your products genuine / authorized?

Yes. AcerGadget Store is operated by Alioth Technology HK Limited, an authorized dealer for both Acer and Plugable. Every product sold through our store is 100% genuine, brand-new, and comes with the full manufacturer warranty.
